Girly Guns

What are Girly Guns? It is a term used to describe a very small handgun (weapon, stun gun, taser) that is often pretty and very concealable. Many are pink, gold, shinny and have beautifully colored wood - - - but mostly, they are small.

Women are often in need of a small firearm that is safe, simple, reliable, of low recoil, easy to carry in a purse or pocket – and effective/lethal. This usually involves a handgun that is small in caliber (22, 25, 32, 380); and though not an ideal man-stopper, it is at least a gun that you will carry. There are now many ‘girly guns’ that are of higher caliber and slightly larger size (9, 40, 45), made out of very durable polymers and metals (Titanium, Scandium).

Ideally, if you were to get into a situation where you had to use lethal force, the ideal gun would be a 12gauge shotgun, but who is going to carry a weapon of that size around town? Neither man nor beast!

Also, while it is a better choice to carry a handgun that is of larger caliber, this usually involves a gun that is significantly larger and weightier – therefore a gun that you wouldn’t or couldn’t comfortable carry around town.

However, the dynamics all change if you don’t plan on carrying a gun with you, but merely want it for home protection.

HANDGUNS FOR HOME PROTECTION

If you don’t plan on carrying a gun around town, and merely want it for the house, “just in case”, then your options for handguns greatly increases. Since you aren’t going to ‘haul it around with you all over town’, the weight of the gun greatly decreases to be an issue. This being the case, now for the most part, it doesn’t matter that the gun seems to be big or heavy since you are only going to be holding on to it when an incident occurs. And how long is this going to last? Probably only for a few moments, right?

The added advantages to the use of a heavier gun are these:
= less recoil
= often less expensive
= wider variety of choices
= greater effectiveness

GUN SAFETY AND CHILDREN

Many women want the security of a handgun but opt not to have one due to the possibility of children getting hold of it. While this is a legitimate concern, it need not be prohibitive; for with each handgun comes a lock (or two) that will render the gun totally child proof and safer than the butter knife in your kitchen drawer. Many of these locks are so secure when attached to a loaded gun that it renders the gun impossible to shoot (by either a child or adult). These locks are not mere child proof “Tricky Medicine Bottles Locks”, but locks in a true sense, and will prevent an adult from using it too. But of course with this added security means comes the added inconvenience that you will have to spend a few seconds to unlock the gun before it is useful – but I believe that you would find this an overall welcome nuisance, right? (This is what we call in business a “Cost Benefit Analysis”). So the lock prevents children from accidentally firing the weapon, and adults from wrongly using it against you.

STATISTICS

I am sure that you have heard that a gun in a home is more likely to be used to accidentally injure someone you know than an actual violent criminal. But a facet of that statistic that you probably were not aware of is this;
Those who are injured/killed by “friendly fire”, were injured due to the fact that they were using drugs and/or drunk. These people misuse firearms while under the influence, and in many cases these people can’t legally own or touch a gun. Eliminate the drugs and alcohol and the incidents go way way way down. And render your firearm ineffective with a safety lock, and they can’t use it at all. (PS – if you firearm is stolen, report it to the police)

If you are responsible and use a safety lock, your safety and that of your family GREATLY INCREASES over the family who doesn’t have a firearm. Think about it – how are you possibly going to fend off one or more – attackers – murders – burglars – muggers – druggies - gangsters - or rapist who are easily physically stronger than you? And when an attack occurs you and your children often don’t have time to wait for the police, do you? The police often arrive only in time to write a report and clean up your bloody mess.

ALTERNATIVES TO HANDGUNS

If you don’t have an operating handgun there are other options; A HANDGUN THAT DOESN’T WORK.
MEANING: one that is empty (no bullets in it), or has been disabled (firing pin removed, etc…).

Yes this is an option and statistics show that it is often extremely effective! It is found that 85% of the time when an altercation occurs, the mere ‘showing’ of a firearm ends the incident. THINK ABOUT IT!!! Eighty-Five Percent of the time the gun doesn’t even have to work in order for it to be effective. This means that when you encounter a mugger or rapist, you pull a gun out of your purse (that doesn’t work or is unloaded), and the mugger or rapist leaves! This also means, if you have kids and don’t want to have a loaded gun around, or are a conscientious objector, or just don’t think you could pull the trigger – THEN CARRY AN UNLOADED OR DISABLED HANDGUN - most of the time it will work just as well as if it were loaded ----- how does the criminal know? He doesn’t!!!!

HANDGUN WITH BLANKS

Another option is to carry ‘blanks’ in your firearm. I have done this in the past. They are very loud when fired but they don’t shoot a bullet. It is like a very loud cap, or maybe like an M80 firecracker. When you hear it go off, there is no way to tell it was a blank. The mere sound of a blank 22 or 38 sends a would be burglar running for his life!!!!!!!!!!! Obviously, this is even better than a ‘disabled’ firearm. For you have audible Bluff - PLUS Bluff on steroids!

TASER OR STUNGUN

Tasers are very popular today. Their popularity is due to the fact that they are very effective, safe, and for the most part non-lethal. They are somewhat pricey; anywhere from about $250-$1,000 each. Some of them look a lot like pistols, and others look like stun guns (I include pictures of them in this section). Many of the smaller Tasers easily fit in a purse. Don’t confuse “Tasers” with “Stun-Guns”. Tasers are much more effective – and boy do they hurt - - - ouch!!! I have been ‘dry’ tased two times, and my son has been tased about 15 times. Now if the price tag of a Taser is prohibitive ($250-$1,000), then you can go the cheaper route, yet less effective route and get a “Stun-Gun” ($15-$100”). Are Tasers that much more effective than ‘stun guns’, and are they worth the added expense? To answer this question, consider, why do police overwhelmingly use Tasers, and NOT Stun-guns?

If you have the financial resources, I recommend owning both a Taser and a handgun. I have a taser ready for use at my store, if the situation presents itself. For instance, if someone comes into my store who is ‘under the influence’ and unruly, and I have the time to operate the Taser – I much prefer to subdue him with a taser and have the cops haul him away, than shoot him (I hate the clean-up part). I kind of like to have an option,,, the handgun doesn’t best fit all situations. But if I could only have one or the other, I would certainly choose the handgun.

Here is another use for the Taser that you might find useful: it is great for ‘dog control’. I had one fellow buy a Taser from me because he watched a cop drop a mad pit bull that was terrorizing the neighborhood. He said the cop “Tased” the dog and it hit the ground like a wet bag of potatoes. Also, if you have dogs that fight each other, or a big dog who is in the habit of hurting other smaller dogs or cats – a few zapps from a Taser or stun-gun and Pavlos Law will work its wonders on the unruly ‘pup’. The Taser will not kill or disable the dog, just hurt him. Again, I and my son have been ‘dry’ tased a number of times, and while it hurts, the pain quickly goes away once contact ends. But the memory lingers on and on and on. PS – some Tasers are so powerful that they can incapacitate a full grown Bull or Cow.

(If you would like to see videos on how effective Tasers are, go to “Youtube.com” and do a search for ‘Tasers’ videos. This will prove to be highly educational and entertaining. Also, for additional information you can go to the manufactures website at www.Taser.com)

MACE/PEPER SPRAY

This is probably one of the least effective defense tools. Many a person can fight through it and still engage you as a target,,,, many times all pepper spray does is make the person madder. But if this is all you have, then it is better than nothing. Keep in mind that pepper spray often looses its propulsion power unexpectedly,,, and you often don’t know this till you encounter a ‘rapist’.

There are other weapons that can be used but for the time being these are the only ones covered. If you have additional questions or would like to purchase a handgun, Taser, etc… then call us at 602-277-2323.
